john dillinger

John Dillinger (1903-1934) was the most famous modern American bank robber. During the Depression of the 1930s, his bank robberies were seen as revenge on the company's financial institutions involved in the unfair exploitation of the economically distressed.

John Dillinger was born on 22 June 1903 in Indianapolis. His mother died when he was still very young, he has raised by his older sister and then by his stepmother after his father married again. At 16 he quit school and began to work on and off. A year later his father moved the family to a farm near Mooresville, Ind. Dillinger rejected rural life and spent most of his time in the surrounding towns.

In 1923 Dillinger fell in love, but the girl's father ended the relation.feeling Bitter, Dillinger stole a car, which he later dropped. Fearing prosecution, he joined the Navy, but deserted it a few months later. In 1924, he was convicted of assault and attempted robbery. On the advice of his father, he PLED guilty, not only he has a heavier sentence than his accomplice, who PLED not guilty, and secured parole after 2 years, while Dillinger stayed in prison.

A hard prisoner, Dillinger served much of his time in solitary confinement. As is so often the case, Dillinger's confinement, rather than a reform and rehabilitation of him, but he trained to become a criminal. When he left prison in 1933, he carried a map given to him by his inmates in prison containing many important robbery sites.

During the worst of the Depression, when exconvict, it is unlikely that Dillinger would have legitimate employment. He quickly found employment by robbing banks with other famous criminals as baby face nilson and pretty boy floyd, however, and almost overnight he became a kind of national hero like Robin Hood. The fact that people have been killed during his bank robberies was overlooked, but the national press played it as a brilliant, daring, likeable person, who stole banks that most of the people hated that times because of the mortgages on the poor debtors just as robin hood

Dillinger was a challenge for law enforcement authorities which he made them look like fools,It was reported that Dillinger deliberately taunted J. Edgar Hoover the head of FBI, by making phone calls to the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as sending him Christmas cards. The actions caused Hoover to irrationally obsessed with the arrest of Dillinger to the exclusion of all other tasks. At a time when Hoover was one third of the total budget of the FBI in 1934 for the hunt for Dillinger,he was known as the public enemy number 1, conflicts between police jurisdictions made him hard to catch. When he was captured, he could escape. His most famous exploit was when he broke the heavily guarded Crown Point County Jail armed only with a wooden gun which he carved by himself then he stole Sheriff Lillian Holley's new Ford car, embarrassing her and the town, and traveled to Chicago, also from his famous exploits that he pretended to be a sale representative that sold bank alarms and he used this trick to know the security systems of the banks, another famous exploit when the gang pretended to be part of a film company and they need to scout the bank for a bank robbery

scene, the bystanders watched and smiled while he was actually stealing the bank, these stories made him a legend. Eventually, however, the members of his gang were killed or captured. Dillinger in Chicago, hid, and tried to disappear. But he was recognized by Anna Sage, a woman who lived with his girlfriend, Polly.

On 22 July 1934, Anna Sage went to the movie Manhattan Melodrama with Dillinger and Polly, dillinger was known of loving movies and it is said that manhattan melodrama is the movie that cause the death of dillinger. anna sage wore an red skirt to identify herself and she became known as the 'lady in red' which became very famous. The federal agents shot him. Even in death, Dillinger remained a thorn in the side of the establishment. Anna Sage ( "The Woman in Red") became a hated figure, as most informants, and the image of law enforcement agencies suffered through what is too little willingness to take Dillinger, then almost a national hero, alive

john dillinger was at the edge from being a criminal to become a national hero
